How to photograph your pet like a pro!

At Vamoosh, we LOVE seeing photos of our furry customers in their Vamoosh clean pet bedding - or snuggled up in their blankets.  With apps such as instagram and Nicole Appleton's newly launched 'petworking' app PetScene, never has there been a better time to get snap happy with our furry friends. However, as pet parents ourselves, we know how tricky it can be to get that perfect picture, so we thought we would put some top tips together to help you capture that one in a million photo of your beloved animal...

1) How low can you go?

Alfie Bear One of the biggest tips for successful pet photography is to get down to your pet's level.   This may mean lying down but it will make a huge difference to the overall shot. (Pictured here is the gorgeous @Alfie_Bear)

2) Location, location, location!

A good background is everything when it comes to taking a spot-on photo of your pet.   Avoid messy or cluttered rooms and aim for a clear background where your pet can shine centre stage! If you are photographing a dog, walks are a great time as they are more likely to be happy and relaxed - and the gorgeous nature scenes around you will make fabulous backgrounds that will enhance your photo. If you are taking your photos indoors, painted walls serve as great backdrops - and don't forget you can make your own backdrop out of any type of fabric - a colourful piece of material or even a bed sheet will work well.

3) Make it fun - and capture their personality !

Fifi Izzy DabblesFun is the key word with dogs in particular, so keep the session moving. You want them to see it as a game rather than a chore. However, if they're a little lazy, catch them sleeping. If they love their food, capture them mid-snack. Every dog is unique and the best photos will be the ones where you really capture their personality. (Pictured here is Fifi - @izzydabbles)

4) Be patient

Remember your dog doesn't understand what a photo is, so remember to be patient with them. Don't spend too much time over it and if they're had enough, take a break or leave it for another time.

5) Squeaky toys and treats

Squeaky toys and treats are your best friend when it comes to taking photos of your pet. Squeaky toys are are a great way to get your pet's attention and for them to look straight into the camera. When all else fails, bribery with treats is a godsend and if you reward your pet, they will reward you with better photos.

Happy snapping!
